MUSIC AND MUTUAL AID MONDAYS WITH MEREDITH - HAPPENING MONTHLY AT TAP25 I
I’ve never been the kind of person to build community on purpose. In fact, I’ve often fought the idea. I will never hesitate to help someone else, but I am a fiercely independent person, and I am often very resistant to asking for help. That said, we are heading into a very uncertain time, and the only thing I know with certainty is that we are going to need to support each other to get through it. For many years now people have been gathering together as a community at my shows to be part of the effervescence we experience when we hear live music in a group.
In January 2025, after a particularly fun show, I was struck with an idea… What if we leveraged these gatherings happening around live music into events where people could share their needs, and their offerings with the rest of the community?? From that MMAMM was born (Music and Mutual Aid Mondays w/ Meredith). I do love me some alliteration. :)
March 24th we had our first gathering in the newly expanded space at Tap25. HUGE thanks to Kristen and Briana Iosco for volunteering to host these meetings in their beautiful space! For many years now Tap25 has served as a gathering place for community members from all walks of life, and I am tremendously grateful to be able to gather people together in this safe, and fun environment for some do goodery!
Now that we have our first meeting under our belts I have a much better idea of how this group will unfold over time. However, I want the growth of this group to be driven by the consensus of its members. At their core these meetings will serve as a connection point for those who are passionate about service, and community. Currently we are putting no boundaries around the assistance we will offer to both MMAMM members, and the greater community as a whole. If we have the people, and the resources to help, then doggonnit we’re gonna help! :)
Each event will feature a set of live music, volunteered by either myself, or another generous local musician, followed by a mutual aid discussion. I see these discussions centering around whatever needs, and offerings in the room feel most urgent, and most helpful to all in attendance, and those who have submitted requests via the form below.
So mark your calendar for 4/28/25, and come ready to connect with your neighbors over some live music, tasty beers (beers optional of course!), and that irreplaceable feeling you get from helping others in your community!
Let’s work together to connect needs with resources!
Any requests for community assistance submitted here will be presented anonymously to the members of MMAMM so that we can coordinate the most timely, and appropriate help given the resources available. The identity of the person making the request will only be revealed to the people directly involved in providing the requested support.
